At Jos Atelier, creating handmade jewellery is more than a profession. As an artisan specialising in traditional filigree and other silversmithing techniques, I believe craftsmanship carries a responsibility: to inspire others, share knowledge, and give back to the community that supports our work.
Over the years, giving back has become an important part of my journey as a jeweller and entrepreneur. Whether through school visits, workshop demonstrations, or charity projects with my family, the goal is always the same — to keep craftsmanship alive while making a positive impact in the community.
Inspiring Young People Through Entrepreneurship Talks
One of the ways I give back is by visiting schools and speaking with students about entrepreneurship, creativity, and the value of craftsmanship.
During these sessions, I share my experience as an artisan and business owner. I explain how passion, persistence, and creativity can be transformed into a successful career. A challenge, but certainly fullfilling.
For many young people, traditional crafts like filigree jewellery making may seem like something from the past. However, when they hear the story behind building a modern artisan brand, they start to see new opportunities.
These talks aim to inspire the next generation to believe that creativity and entrepreneurship can go hand in hand.
Showing Students the Art of Filigree Making
Another important initiative is welcoming school groups. these sessions are held at l-Artigjana in Rabat.
When students visit, they experience something unique: seeing filigree jewellery being created by hand. Watching the delicate process of twisting fine silver wires and carefully assembling intricate patterns helps them understand the dedication and patience behind handcrafted jewellery.
Seeing the craft in person creates a deeper appreciation for traditional techniques and the value of handmade work.
For many students, this is their first encounter with a real artisan crafting and therefore can ask questions and get a feeling of the life of the artisan as well.
Teaching Children the Value of Giving Back
Giving back to the community has also become a meaningful activity within my own family.
Together with my children and husband, Roberto, we create handmade items that we sell to raise funds for charitable causes. This ongoing project which we named 'Siblings for others' teaches them creativity, responsibility, and the importance of helping others.
Over the past years, we raised funds for the AAA, supporting their work for animal welfare. My son loves dogs and this was our first chosen NGO to donate the money too.
Currently, we are raising funds for Millennium Chapel, an organisation known for providing support and assistance to people in need within our community. The funds collected after selling the products they craft stands at 150 Euro.
This project allows my children to understand that even small handmade creations can make a real difference.
Keeping Craftsmanship Alive Through Community
Being an artisan means more than producing beautiful jewellery. It means preserving knowledge, sharing skills, and inspiring others to value craftsmanship.
Through school visits, workshop demonstrations, and family charity projects, Jos Atelier aims to contribute to a stronger and more connected community.
Because sometimes the most meaningful things we create are not only objects — but opportunities to inspire and give back.
