Jewellery Making Workshops in Malta: What to Expect From Your First Silversmithing Class

Jewellery Making Workshops in Malta: What to Expect From Your First Silversmithing Class

There is something incredibly satisfying about creating a piece of jewellery with your own hands.

At Jos Atelier, my jewellery-making workshops in Malta are designed to give you the opportunity to step behind the crafting, discover traditional silversmithing techniques and create a piece of sterling silver jewellery or other jewellery that is completely your own.

And if you've never made jewellery before, that's absolutely fine. In fact, many of the people who come to my workshops are complete beginners.

Whether you're looking for a creative experience in Malta, something different to enjoy with a friend or partner, or you've simply always wondered what it feels like to make your own jewellery, I'll guide you through the process step by step.

Do I Need Experience to Join a Jewellery-Making Workshop?

Not at all.

My workshops are designed for beginners, so you don't need previous jewellery-making or silversmithing experience.

You'll learn at your own pace and I'll be there throughout the workshop to demonstrate the techniques, answer questions and help you whenever you need it.

Part of the experience is discovering just how much you can create from a simple piece of silver.

What Will I Learn?

Depending on the workshop you choose, you'll be introduced to some of the same traditional silversmithing techniques I use when creating jewellery at Jos Atelier. You may also have the opportunity to work with other metals and materials.

You may learn how to measure, shape, texture, solder and finish sterling silver, gradually transforming the metal into a piece of jewellery you can actually wear.

Rather than simply watching someone make jewellery, you'll be doing the making yourself.

There is something very special about reaching the end of the workshop, looking at the finished piece in your hand and being able to say:

“I made this.”

Do I Need to Bring Tools or Materials?

No.

Everything you need to create your piece is included in the workshop price.

That includes the tools you'll use, the metal and the other materials or ancillary products needed during the making process.

You simply need to turn up ready to learn, experiment and enjoy yourself.

What Can I Make at a Jos Atelier Workshop?

The piece you create will depend on the workshop you choose, but the important part is that you'll be involved in making it yourself.

Make Your Own Sterling Silver Ring Making

Step behind the jeweller's bench and create your own 925 sterling silver ring. You'll learn some of the fundamental techniques used in silversmithing as you transform silver into a finished ring that's uniquely yours.

It's a lovely introduction to jewellery making and no previous experience is necessary.

Create Your Own Stacking Rings

Design and make a set of sterling silver stacking rings, experimenting with textures and finishes to create a combination that reflects your own style.

Wear them together, mix them with rings you already own, or simply enjoy knowing that they were made by your own hands.

Discover Maltese Filigree

Experience a craft deeply connected to Malta's jewellery-making heritage.

During a Maltese filigree workshop, you'll discover how fine silver wire is manipulated to create the delicate forms and patterns characteristic of this traditional technique.

This is particularly special for visitors looking for an authentic creative experience while in Malta.

Other Jewellery-Making Experiences

Jos Atelier also offers other creative jewellery workshops throughout the year, giving you the opportunity to explore different techniques, materials and designs.

Each experience is hands-on, relaxed and designed to help you discover the pleasure of making jewellery for yourself.

All tools and materials are provided, so you simply need to come ready to create.

Are the Workshops Private?

Many of my jewellery-making experiences are offered as private workshops, making them particularly lovely for couples, friends and small groups.

A private workshop gives you time to work at your own pace, ask questions and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed.

They can also make a memorable way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, hen activity or simply spend some creative time together.

A Creative Experience to Try While Visiting Malta

Malta is known for its history, architecture, food and beautiful coastline, but experiencing a traditional craft can offer a very different connection to the island.

Jewellery making allows you to slow down for a few hours and experience something hands-on.

And instead of taking home a conventional souvenir, you leave Malta with something much more personal:

a piece of jewellery you made yourself.

What If I'm Not Creative?

You don't need to consider yourself artistic or creative.

Jewellery making is a process. I'll show you the techniques and guide you through each stage, while still giving you space to make choices that make the finished piece feel like yours.

Sometimes the people who arrive saying “I'm not creative at all” are the ones who surprise themselves the most.
